The Gambia’s U20 lethal striker, Adama Bojang, said representing his country is a great feeling for him.
Bojang scored a brace for The Gambia’s opening Group F match against Honduras in the Mendoza Stadium in Argentina.
A quick start saw The Gambia take the lead after just 20 seconds. Adama Bojang rifled home a stunning left-footed long-range effort. Honduras equalised four minutes later.
Six minutes before normal time, Bojang did it again. His low header was saved Garcia, Honduras goalkeeper, but Bojang reacted quickly and slotted home the winning goal for the young scorpions.
Speaking to sports journalist, Sheikh Tijan Gaye, Bojang said; “It’s a great feeling for me; coming to the World Cup, representing my nation and scoring a brace for the country”.
Bojang believes the reason the team is doing so well is because they motivate each other, and that every player is committed.
“Sometimes we motivate each other. The dedication and the commitment is in the team. Everyone loves each other. We got each other’s backs, that’s why when we go to the pitch, things come easy for us…the feeling inside the team so amazing.”
Nicknamed ‘The Gambian hurricane’, Bojang’s goal scoring exploits are nothing new. He scored four goals at the U20 AFCON, including a hat-trick against South Sudan.
Bojang’s strike after just 20 seconds was the quickest goal scored at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, and the fourth fastest in the tournament’s history. Amadou Sagna’s effort for Senegal against Tahiti after just nine seconds at Poland 2019 remains the quickest.
Meanwhile, according to reports, several European clubs, including Chelsea, have stepped up interest in the wonderkid.
